1000 teachers trained by AID in krishnagiri
Front Page Only Items

AID India team in Krishnagiri trained more than 1000 teachers from all Government Primary schools in Krishnagiri who took part in a one day training programme for the Padippum Inikkum (remedial Tamil reading) programme. The Govt of Tamil Nadu along with the State Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan(SSA) has taken up this effort in about 5 districts. AID India along with many other NGOs is training teachers in using the reading kit and assisting children through activities according to their learning levels.

The trainings were a great success. Many many teachers have given extremely encouraging feedback about the training. Many mentioned that it was the best training they have ever attended! Most amazingly, most of our resource persons who trained the teachers happened to be in their early 20s! Most teachers had that many years of experience. The success of the training lies in the fact that the training and the effort have found acceptance among teachers. The implication of this effort is that by the beginning of next year, all children in their 3rd, 4th & 5th std, in these districts will be able to read Tamil fluently!

Kudos to Smitha and her team. We except lots of news like this in coming future.

Disappearing Water Levels – Status of water table in Mehndiganj and surrounding villages of Varanasi, U.P

Savithri Devi from Mehndiganj has the following question to the Coca-Cola plant and the government:
“When we used to have droughts earlier, we used to rely on ground water to see us through the years. Now with Coca-Cola taking our water away, what shall we do in drought situation?” The decreasing water table due to the exploitation of lakhs of liters of water by Coca-Cola has been a cause for concern for the community and is the basis of the struggle initiated by Lok Samiti, NAPM, Gaon Bachao Sangarsh Samiti and Sajha Sanskruti Manch.
