An Article by AID Saathi Dhanda Mishra
The work of AID in the state of Orissa over the past two years has been managed by the state chapter. AID Orissa has been able to assist disadvantaged rural communities through the implementation of the AID Rural Technology Resource Center (ARTRC). AID Orissa has been working with individuals on a grassroots level to create sustainable communities through the enhancement of individual skills and knowledge, in order that traditional livelihoods are maintained and indigenous skilled workers are not made obsolete and hence forced to move away from their villages to find employment. With a team of ten to fifteen staff and almost 50 student volunteers, AID Orissa has developed a range of projects in the Gajapati district that target livelihood training and income generation, education, community development and environmental issues. AID Orissa has close links with the Jagannath Institute of Technology (JITM) and has joint projects with the help of students and faculty of JITM. For the purpose of this paper specific examples of AID Orissa projects in the area of Building Technology, Renewable Energy and Education will be discussed.

An Article by AID-Dallas Volunteer Sheetal Umesh Kumar

βHey, am I still doing the press
coverage and taking pictures for the Bhopal gas thing today?β I ask
Vijai, the president of the Association of India's development β
Dallas chapter, this afternoon. I was going to have a busy day; my
agenda, apart from my weekly grooming routine, included shopping,
moving to my new apartment and cooking for my friends. I was being
constructive; any activity other than sleeping to me up until now,
meant I was being productive. Alright. I think to myself. This
is not bad. I'm pretty sure I can squeeze in some time to volunteer
for an AID event, I am a volunteer, I do have to show up once in a
while. So, I put on some make up, decide I need to smell nice and
head out. It is a warm day, and I am happy. |

A rousing speech , made spontaneously, making us think more deeply of
India and the ONE thing we need to do, is a wonderful way to usher in
the New Year.
"....Thus you see that the legislature keeps offering solutions to people's
problems in the form of laws. There are more than 165 welfare or reform
laws made on land issue alone. Let us all applaud that. At the level of
implementation, executive and judiciary, these laws are made
ineffective...."
