Report on CHOLERA EPIDEMIC IN MOHANA BLOCK, GAJAPATI

Background

Gajpati District of Orissa

The Mohana block of Gajapati district is one of the most remote, inaccessible tribal areas of the state. It has recently been in news for spread of Cholera which started from Kashipur and Dasmantpur blocks of neighboring Raygada district.

 

A two member team of AID India, Orissa chapter which operates out of the AID Rural Technology Resource Center (ARTRC) located near the district headquarters, Paralakhemundi in Gosani block visited the cholera affected area to understand the ground realities and figure out a way to help.

Two tragic deaths at IIT-Kanpur

A child bitten by a snake/scorpion was not admitted to the IIT-Kanpur health centre as his dad was only a construction labourer.  He died. A week later another worker died because he was not given a proper  electricity connection to his floor-polishing machine -- so he was electrocuted. This is how the Indian Institute of Technology is dealing with those who are constructing it.   Please jon hundreds of others and sign the letter to director of IIT-Kanpur to compensate the victims families and improve working conditions and health care at IIT.  Click links at top of this page for more information.

 
Training camp by BGVS
Hundred Block Program

 Patna ,Camp was organized by women leaders of BGVS. 70 parcipants from various dists were participated. So many issues related to women raised and so many in formations about law related to women were realized. Dharmendra took a 3 hours class about women health and child health. Kamini had assisted me Dharmendra to awoke women. With the help of charts, folders and booklets kamini took an excellent class on adolescent health. It is plan to take adolescent health classes in villages and form adolescent manch. Main resource person was Komal srivastava (BGVS, Delhi).Girl education, SHG, women violence etc. were main theme of this camp.   

Nevada, Camp was organized from 22-27 Aug,07 at Gobardhan Mandir in which 40 participants participated. Main resource persons were Sudhir, Pr. N. C. Sharma and Dharmendra.. The main issue of this workshop was to build a better society.

A Report on Herb Garden in Bhopal by Terry Allan                                                             Picture Link

 This time last summer a hundred-year flood inundated the Sambhavna Herb Garden in Bhopal and the surrounding communities. Much of the garden infrastructure and many of the perennial plantings were damaged or destroyed. But thanks to the determination of gardeners Ratna, Mukesh, and Manmohan, and your generous response to our emergency funding appeal, everything has been rebuilt even better than before and the garden is looking forward to a productive season. On behalf of the Sambhavna staff, I am writing to thank you for your support, and to let you know what has been accomplished with your donations.
