Latest Andhra -- Kiran has left for Nagula Dinne village in Kurnool District at 5am today.  This village was by many accounts the worst affected in the area.  AID, BHUMI and BOSF volunteers are coordinating together for this relief effort.  They are in touch with the district administration and they suggested this village.  They are also in touch with a paramedic and village sarpanch who can help as needed.   They have taken one lakh rupees worth of medicines, blankets, sarees and food along with them.  Please tune in for more updates.

Oct 6: Update from Kirankumar Vissa, Hyderabad

There are quite a few groups and individuals from Hyd who are organizing relief material, and some of them making field visits in Mahbubnagar and Kurnool districts with relief supplies. Some of them have reached villages where no other agencies have reached, and are organizing distribution. As Srihari has shared, Akshara has set up two relief camps in M'nagar dist.

In the immediate couple of days, I see that we can help in these ways:

(1) Purchase relief material and send it along with people already making field visits. I came to know that Rakesh from Bhumi are going tomorrow to one of the worst affected villages in Kurnool dist. I have asked him to tell me what material he is planning to take, and whether he needs resources for buying more quantities. To give a rough idea of the kind of things people are taking, another volunteer is leaving tomorrow morning with his friends, and he is planning to take the following:

Chapatis - 3000
30 to 40 bags of clothes
40 to 50 kgs of rice
2 bags of blankets
10 boxes of biscuits (each box contains around 25 packets)
Bread and Bun
Milk Powder Packets

Water purification material and medicines are also a big need.

If AID is able to send immediate relief funds from the US, we can purchase relief items and send them through reliable friends/groups or take it ourselves to the field.

(2) We can also help in mobilizing local resources including free medicines from people we know.

(3) Get tips from AID-Chennai and Aila partners about some specific needs in flood-affected areas based on previous relief experience. For example, there is a discussion about least expensive ways of doing water purification since there is a big danger of water-borne diseases.
