Aparna Chidambaram

Aparna ChidambaramAparna Chidambaram got involved with AID in August 1997 when a group of students at Duke and NC State Universities seeded their local AID chapters with a day long fast on the completion of India’s 50 years of independence. After moving to Oregon in 2000, she became an active volunteer with AID Portland working extensively on fundraising and outreach activities. She was the Secretary of the chapter in 2003-04 and served as the Treasurer from late 2004 until May 2007.

She has  been actively involved with the Village Computer Kiosks project at AID Portland working with Chetna Gala Sinha of the Mann Deshi Mahila Bank in Maharashtra. She counts her interactions with Chetna and other activists like Arvind Kejriwal and Swati Desai amongst the most rewarding experiences with AID.

Aparna is the Treasury Administrative coordinator on the EB, and is also part of the Agriculture cell to pursue her particular interest in sustainable and organic agriculture.

She has a BE in Metallurgy from the College of Engineering, Pune (India), an MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Regina (Saskatchewan, Canada), and a PhD in Fiber & Polymer Science from NC State University (Raleigh, NC). Nowadays, she lives near Portland with her husband, Subhash Joshi.
