INTRODUCTION:
The
flood situation continued to remain grim in Orissa even on Monday as a storm,
accompanied by torrential rains and strong winds inundated many more areas of
the state including Cuttack and capital Bhubaneswar. Cuttack, recorded 33 cm of
rain in just 10 hours on Sunday - the highest in the last three decades. Over
half a million people have been stranded by the floods. The situation in the
state capital Bhubaneswar
was no better. 'Rainwaters have gushed into many houses in VIP areas like Sahid
Nagar and Acharya Vihar as well,' said an official of Bhubaneswar Development
Authority (BDA). Looking into the grim situation AID Orissa has come forward to
provide immediate relief to the families worst affected by flood in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
OBJECTIVE:
To provide
immediate relief to the people affected by flood in Cuttack
and Bhubaneswar
particular in areas where AID Orissa volunteers/activists/associates live and
can easily access.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
·
Assess the situation and prepare a list of areas
severely affected by flood.
·
Make a list of materials to be provided to
overcome the immediate crises
·
Make arrangements to supply them the materials
at the earliest
o
In areas where immediate government help has not
reached
o
People who will not receive help from Government
and/or NGOs for one or the reasons.
GOAL: To provide immediate relief to the people of worst affected
by flood in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on the one hand and on the other
liaison with the government machinery to see to it that the persons in distress
receive the required help.

Approval is requested
for 10% of the above budget for immediate emergency relief work and rest for
subsequent help to those who may be left out from the government assistance or
that of other NGOs on an as needed basis.
CONCLUDING REMARKS:
While it is difficult to exactly
assess the damage in the immediate aftermath of an emergency with the team in
the field busy providing urgent help to those who need it most, the above is a
quick estimate of need. The budget will depend largely on the effectiveness of
government and other NGO efforts. AID Orissa will only try to plug the gaps where ever that
may exist in proximity to its areas of operation.
