An Article by AID Saathi Dhanda Mishra The work of AID in the state of Orissa over the past two years has been managed by the state chapter. AID Orissa has been able to assist disadvantaged rural communities through the implementation of the AID Rural Technology Resource Center (ARTRC). AID Orissa has been working with individuals on a grassroots level to create sustainable communities through the enhancement of individual skills and knowledge, in order that traditional livelihoods are maintained and indigenous skilled workers are not made obsolete and hence forced to move away from their villages to find employment. With a team of ten to fifteen staff and almost 50 student volunteers, AID Orissa has developed a range of projects in the Gajapati district that target livelihood training and income generation, education, community development and environmental issues. AID Orissa has close links with the Jagannath Institute of Technology (JITM) and has joint projects with the help of students and faculty of JITM. For the purpose of this paper specific examples of AID Orissa projects in the area of Building Technology, Renewable Energy and Education will be discussed.
