You are invited to contribute photographs taken by you for our 2009 calendar. Please submit your entries by July 15 2008 to calendar@aidindia.org
Our theme for the 2009 calendar is "ROTI". With this theme we would like to portray the beauty, ingenuity, diversity, and struggle in the field of food today.
We are SEEKING photographs on the themes of FOOD - seeds, plants, crops, harvests, farmers, farmworkers, processing, preparation for 2009 AID calendar, part of a three-year series on the theme "Roti - Kapda - Makan"
We want pictures that highlight various food issues. Right to Food, nutrition, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, natural inputs, how our food choices affect the world, etc.
Association for India 's Development is particularly looking for images that depict ways people are growing and preparing foods that sustain health, earth, and livelihoods. For example ragi (millet) is a food that grows without irrigation, pesticide or fertilizer, in dryland, is highly nutritious and inexpensive for the consumer. Thus it supports food security, promotes nutrition, and is good for land and farmers. We want to spread the word about more foods like this! We are hoping for photographs that help the viewer comprehend complex relationships as well as suggest survival strategies for growers, harvesters, vendors, and society as a whole in contemporary India. We are looking for photographs with rich captions that will touch people personally and make us see food in a new way, maybe even try a new food. Include recipes!
AID calendars reach thousands of people each year. Previous years' themes have been Kapda: Clothing India, Nurturing Nature, Rural Livelihoods, North East India, Women and Work, Wisdom of the Grasroots, Inspiring Changes, and Narmada , and have included images taken by leading Indian and international photographers, journalists, and grassroots workers.
